Synthetic Track Data
a Top Ten for 2008 by Phillips Racing Newsletter!
Data from 4/6/2007 to 7/31/2008
We collected data on races run at Arlington, Del Mar, Golden Gate, Hollywood Park, Keeneland, Presque Isle. Santa Anita, Turfway Park, and Woodbine with dates ranging from April 2007 thru July 2008. The data respresents more than 56,800 racing lines, run over synthetic surfaces. We can't claim that the data is complete, because some Import Charts and PP files were no longer available. Still, 56,800 lines offer a very representative sample.
We created an Excel Spreadsheet which contains data on the Track, Date, Surface (Polytrack, Cushion Track, Tapeta), Distance, Route or Sprint, Name,Age and Sex of the horse, the names of its sire and dam, the jockey, trainer and owner of the horse, and whether it finished in the money and/or won the race. Using Excel, you can sort this data anyway you like. You can look for the significance of the dam, the owner, the time of year, the type of track, etc.
The hardest part of the effort was in matching each horse with its sex, sire and dam, since this data is not included in the Bris Import Charts files. Still, we managed to match more than 56,000. So, you have more than 56,000 records which you can search by sex, sire and/or dam, and more than 56,800 records which include the date, track, surface, distance, jockey, trainer, owner and result.
A sample page of the spreadsheet, sorted by Horse, is shown below. Click on it for an enlarged view.

You'll find some interesting data here if you take the time to look for it. For example, Cane Garden Boy is 5 of 8 on synthetic surfaces. And he's won on the Tapeta at PID as well as the Polytrak at Arlington and Keeneland. You've heard of "horses for courses," what about "horses for surfaces?" It isn't always like that. For example Deputy Lad is 0 for 2 at DMR, but 4 for 4 at HOL.
If you are a serious handicapper, this spreadsheet is a bargain at only $29.95! And since we'll deliver via email, there's no shipping/handling charge.
