Trainer/Jockey Combo Statistics - version 2.0

In Phillips Racing Newsletter's TOP TEN for 2006!

Version 2 of our Trainer/Jockey Combo Statistics program includes a number of exciting new features suggested by our customers. Among these are the ability to focus the analysis on specific types of races such as maiden races, races on turf, sprints vs routes, etc. And, in addition to the win percentage, the new version also shows the ROI% earned by each trainer/jockey combination!

Most handicappers take a careful look at the win percentage earned by the trainer as well as by the jockey. However, these numbers can be very misleading. For example, consider the following statistics taken from Turf races between 10/17/2005 and 7/04/2006.

Jockey Castellano went 0 for 5 riding on turf for trainer Stanley Hough, but won 66.6% when he rode on the turf for Angel Penna Jr., and showed an amazing ROI of 108.3%! During the same time period, trainer/jockey combo of Mott/Velasquez showed a win percentag of 45.5% and ROI of 46.4% on the turf. But if you ran the same kind of analysis on their performance in all dirt races, you would find only 23.5% winners and an ROI of only 2.4%!

Just looking at the win percentages of the trainers and jockeys by themselves, you would never guess that Mott/Velasquez do so much better on turf than on dirt, or how hot the Penna/Castellano combo is. But you certainly can find a winning edge if you track the win percentages of the trainer/jockey combinations. If you are already downloading past performance files from BRIS of TSN, why not use these to accumulate trainer/jockey combo data, and update the data every two or three weeks?

That's exactly what the Trainer/Jockey Combo Statistics program does for you. You simply place a few weeks worth of PP data into a folder and run the program. You can limit the races the program looks at by type of race, surface and/or distance. It examines each past performance line for each horse, in each race that fits your selection criteria, on each day, and accumulates the results of all the trainer/jockey combinations it finds, eliminates duplicate races, displays the results as shown below, and stores them in a text file.

If you like, you can also open the text file in MS Excel, where you can even separate out the trainer stats and jockey stats, etc.

At only $44.95, the program is inexpensive, and puts you in complete control of the accuracy of your trainer, jockey and trainer/jockey combo statistics!
